Global Washington was launched as a membership organization in December 2008. In a very short time, Global Washington has become a catalyst for strengthening the global development sector and its member organizations. Global Washington now consists of four full-time staff members and a team of interns; operates with an annual budget of approximately $500,000; and includes over 150 active member organizations, businesses, universities, and individuals, as well as over 1000 people who attend Global Washington events and seminars annually.
Composed of non-profit organizations, foundations, businesses, government, and academic institutions, Global Washington is a broad-based membership association that promotes and supports the global development sector in the state of Washington. Global Washington’s vision is for the state of Washington to be a recognized center of influential and innovative global development activity where diverse groups work collectively to build a more equitable and prosperous world.
With the primary goal of implementing the mission and vision of Global Washington (GW), the Executive Director (ED) is directly responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of GW’s programs, member services, and advocacy. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED manages fundraising, public relations, finance and administration, and organization development, including supervising all staff members.
Ideal candidate profile
The successful candidate will demonstrate genuine passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Global Washington, as well as the energy and drive to lead the organization to its next level of expansion and development. The successful candidate will be a big-picture thinker with hands-on experience leading the development of strategic plans, and will possess significant, high-level executive leadership experience. He or she must possess the acumen to effectively work with a prominent Board of Directors utilizing their talents and skills for the betterment of the organization.
A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred. The competitive candidate will possess experience and demonstrated ability in individual donor fundraising and experience working with an endowment or other development efforts. Candidates must have a minimum of five years experience with non-profit organizations working in leadership positions with staff supervisory responsibility. Preference will be given to candidates with solid Executive Director experience especially those with experience leading membership-based organizations, associations, educational institutions, and mission based agencies with an international focus.
