DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION: YEAH! is a non-profit located in Berkeley California which provides wrap-around support and winter shelter for transition-age youth ages 18-25 who are homeless in Berkeley. Our organization has an opening for a full-time Executive Director. We believe that young adulthood is a unique developmental stage in a person’s life. YEAH!’s new Executive Director will ideally have the creativity and drive of an entrepreneur coupled with a passion for working with transition-aged youth. The best candidate will be eager to take YEAH! through a period of growth and expansion, while maintaining devotion to YEAH!’s core mission.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with and a passion for working with Transitional Age Youth
- Three years experience in a senior management position in a non-profit
- Experience managing an organizational budget
- Demonstrated success in fund development, including foundation and donor relations
- Ability to manage data for contract compliance
- Fluency in and commitment to harm reduction
- Ability to work cross-culturally
- Ability to triage crises and work collaboratively through them
- Strong writing skills
- Views on homelessness that are consistent with the agency’s values and mission
Graduate school experience (MPP, MSW, MPH or other relevant degree) is a plus but not required.

DUTIES (PERCENTAGES ARE ROUGH ESTIMATES):
FUNDING (40% OF TIME)
Take responsibility for all aspects of fund raising and marketing to increase the income of YEAH! and raise its visibility.
Take leadership in planning to ensure support for the services we provide, and to provide sustainable, long-term growth for the services and staffing we envision.
Help create and ensure implementation of annual fund-raising plan.
Call donors, write grants, and write final reports as needed.
Increase and diversify the organization’s funding sources.
Ensure compliance and proper reporting for three municipal contracts that comprise 50% of our budget.
Advocate on municipal and county levels to ensure that government adequately funds the services it requires the organization to provide.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP (20% of time) Inspire, motivate, and empower a strong staff team that is committed to our mission to house and help youth who are homeless.
Develop an organizational structure that fosters staff cooperation and accountability with open and frequent communication, teamwork, and a common organizational vision.
Hire, train, and supervise contract staff.
Write an annual report.
Manage the relationship with the landlord and facilities.
Manage contract negotiations and compliance.
Oversee personnel files.
Manage 990 preparations and oversight with the bookkeeper and Associate Director.
POLITICAL AND COMMUNITY CONTACTS (15% OF TIME)
Maintain and improve the organization’s relationship with city and state officials, funders, and review agents.
Increase YEAH’s visibility and influence to support its program and the mission of TAY with legislators and the general public.
Continue to build connections with organizations in the East Bay that serve TAY, and work toward stronger partnerships in service provision and advocacy.
Represent the organization proactively at public functions and make presentations.
FISCAL MANAGEMENT (15% OF TIME)
OVERSEE ALL FINANCIAL ACTIVITY.
Work with Board Treasurer and Staff to prepare budgets, cash flow statements, and quarterly reports to the board, and make sure that all the expenditures are within the budget to ensure that the organization is fiscally sound.
RELATIONSHIP TO THE BOARD (10% OF TIME)
Attend all Board meetings.
Promote critical thinking, strategic planning, and financial development with the Board.
Work closely with the Board of Directors to recruit and maintain a strong balanced Board of Directors.
Direct and implement change based on plans and policies adopted with the Board.
