Norwalk Grassroots Tennis (NGT) is a non-profit organization that is changing the lives of low income children through tennis, life skills, education and leadership programs. It seeks an Executive Director. This position is based on a 25 hour work week.

Job Title: Executive Director

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the President (or co-Presidents) of the NGT Board, the Executive Director (ED) will oversee and drive operational and development efforts in support of NGT’s strategic plan. A new position in the organization, the ED will have the opportunity to develop and grow the organization. This twenty-five hour per week position has an opportunity to become full time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


The NGT ED will be responsible for building and executing the development plan. The ED will work closely with and supervise the efforts of the Director of Administration, as well as the Fundraising and Events Committees.

  • Develop and execute NGT’s annual fundraising campaign in support of the strategic plan
  • Develop a marketing plan to support fundraising efforts
  • Identify and secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Develop and execute a strategy to secure a large and sustainable base of annual individual donors
  • Work closely with the Events Committee on the plan, calendar and organization of special events
  • Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising


  • Oversee the structure, planning and execution of all programs
  • Develop metrics to evaluate programs. Recommend programming improvements to Board and staff as necessary
  • Develop and nurture the relationship with the USTA

Community Outreach

  • Serve as primary public spokesperson for the organization
  • Extend NGT fundraising and volunteer footprint beyond current core towns


  • Manage staff and volunteers
  • Manage performance of staff, including job descriptions, performance, annual reviews, compensation, recruiting and hiring
  • Assist Co-Presidents with Board and Executive Committee meeting agendas
  • Monitor the NGT budget, ensuring ongoing financial stability


  • Commitment to improving the lives of low income children
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree
  • Knowledge of local community a plus
  • Tennis experience a plus
  • Experience in non-profit management, including fundraising, a plus
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and managerial skills
  • Self motivated and ability to think outside of the box
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Computer proficiency and Internet navigation skills required
  • References required
