Position Announcement: Executive Director, The Healing Center

Salary: ($70,000 to $80,000 DOE)
Operating Budget: $420,000
The Healing Center seeks an experienced non-profit Executive Director who, in addition to having a full set of leadership skills and competencies, is able to demonstrate empathy and compassion in emotionally difficult situations. The successful candidate will also possess a thorough understanding of issues surrounding grief and loss.
Founded in 2000, The Healing Center offers comprehensive grief support services for adults, children and families. People come to us with a variety of losses, including the death of a partner, parent, sibling, or child. The majority of our clients are younger widowed men and women and their families. Our community offers a unique, long-term, multi-faceted approach to grief support, combining structured therapy sessions with informal events and social networks.
The mission of The Healing Center is to provide a safe, supportive, confidential and nurturing environment for people to move through their grief. Its sole purpose is to provide support to individuals, families and youth who are struggling with loss. We provide these services for no cost or on a sliding scale. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
The Healing Center currently employs five people, including grief counselors, a Development Coordinator and a part time administrative support person. We have more than 50 volunteers, including graduate level counseling interns.
The Executive Director will lead the management, growth and development of The Healing Center. This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the vitality, integrity, and efficiency of The Healing Center’s programs and services. He or she will report to the Board of Directors.
·Prepare and execute an ongoing fundraising plan with the participation and support of the Board.
·Manage the operations of the organization, including budget planning and fiscal responsibility.
·Ensure compliance with personnel policies and city, state and federal regulations and licenses.
·Manage change and provide confidence during transitional periods.
·Ensure that the agency stays on track pursuing a long-range strategy to achieve its mission, measuring progress towards achieving goals.
·Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
·Hire employees and consultants and support the professional development of staff.
·Represent The Healing Center in the larger non-profit and philanthropy communities and coordinate with the news media.
·Establish sound working relationships and collaboration with community groups and organizations.
·Help to identify future program directions, new opportunities, and innovative strategies to serve The Healing Center’s mission.
Qualifications and Characteristics Desired
·Passion for the mission of The Healing Center.
·Previous experience as an Executive Director in an organization with an annual budget of $250,000 to $1,500,000.
·Previous experience with an organization with a staffing structure that includes contract labor as well as volunteers.
·Ability to execute Board directives and manage mutually agreed upon timelines.
·Outstanding and professional communication skills.
·Ability to work collaboratively with others in executing a pre-set series of fund raising events: the May Day Walk, St. Patrick’s Day Dash, the Detlef Auction and the Fall Event.
·Relevant accredited higher education.
·An upbeat disposition and ability to manage and maintain a professional yet fun work environment.
·Experience supervising staff and knowledge of human resources practices.
The annual base salary for this position is targeted for $70,000 to $80,000k DOE. In addition, The Healing Center offers a generous health benefits plan, including full paid medical, dental and life insurance.
