Executive Director

We seek an outstanding early childhood education and nonprofit leader who embraces our mission of using nature as our classroom and is driven to fulfill our vision of becoming the standard of early childhood educational excellence in NH. The ideal candidate is:

 A strong, experienced leader who inspires confidence and communicates our unique vision effectively with parents, families, staff, and the community.

 A non-profit administrator who is highly skilled at personnel, finance, and facilities management motivated by and experienced in the fundraising and marketing required to sustain a small non-profit.

 An experienced supervisor who sets high standards and fosters a culture of teamwork, critical self-reflection, open communication, pro-active problem solving and on-going professional development.

 An experienced early educator who has a well-developed knowledge of child development and a play-based philosophy of early childhood education and can convey this understanding in meaningful and evocative ways to parents, staff and the community.

With a 25-year history, Sandwich Children’s Center is deeply rooted in our community with a strong board, an ambitious strategic plan, widespread goodwill, and generous community support. We provide early educational experiences for about 50 children ages 6 weeks – 12 years from Sandwich and surrounding towns with a staff of about 15 educators. Tuition for all children is discounted and we are committed to providing additional scholarship support to keep tuition affordable for families in need. Our distinctive curriculum focuses on nature, play, arts and literacy and has received state-wide recognition as a leader in the farm-to-preschool movement.

Our 200 year-old building is nestled in the heart of the tight-knit village of Sandwich which borders both Squam Lake and the White Mountain National Forest. Our community is rich with artists, musicians, fine craftspeople, farmers, scientists and retirees whom we draw on to expand children’s educational horizons and to deepen their connections to the natural world and their community.

This is the ideal position for an individual who loves being at the very heart of a rural community and is energized by the vision of making a lasting impact as a leader both on an organization and a community. This position calls for a passionate individual who can move fluidly and effectively among the worlds of child development, staff development, donor cultivation, marketing, budgeting, and managing the needs of a 200-year old building. Community support is strong, but our budget can be tight, so this position works best for someone who relishes the ongoing effort to build relationships and make things happen.

Salary range is $40K-$50K, negotiable based on experience. Full-time. Intended start date July 7, 2014. Earlier start possible. Open until filled.
