COMPANY INFORMATION: Expanding Maine-based environmental consulting company seeks an experienced Environmental Scientist to manage a range of projects, lead field efforts, and help to grow the company.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Environmental Scientist in this position will assist with and lead efforts in the areas of project and task management, field work (i.e., wetland delineations, environmental assessments and monitoring, flora and fauna surveys), permitting, reporting, and business development/marketing. Preferred candidates will possess direct experience performing wetland delineations per USACE wetland delineation procedures; preparing technical reports and NEPA documents; identifying birds by sight and song; conducting flora and fauna surveys; identifying herbaceous and woody plants; knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and statutes; and, experience with environmental compliance inspections and monitoring on utility projects. As a member of this expanding small business, staff member will also assist in growing the business by identifying potential opportunities, preparing proposals and cost estimates, and assisting in web-based and in-person marketing efforts. Certifications or licenses in the areas of wetlands, wildlife, and specific species a plus. Staff members in this position will be expected to travel to locations nationwide to perform field work. In some cases, field work may extend one or more weeks in duration.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental sciences, wildlife management or other relevant area and a minimum of 5 years applicable experience in the environmental field. Required skills and capabilities include:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access
- Strong interpersonal skills: positive, upbeat, self-motivated, and able to lead
- Interest in developing a skill set covering a diversity of wetland and terrestrial systems
- Willingness and ability to travel and perform field work nationwide, year round, under both good and adverse weather conditions, and in remote areas with often difficult terrain and limited access and accommodations
