throughout the day. A typical day includes about half of the time spent outside, in all weather
conditions, as a springboard for the emergent curriculum and movement breaks.
Our mission: Juniper Hill School for Place-Based Education connects children to themselves, to each
other, and to their communities through studying both natural and human environments. Utilizing
integrated curriculum, immersion in the natural world, and social understanding, we strive to create
peaceful, creative, loving children, who are becoming masters of their own learning and actively
helping to make this world a better place (please refer to the attached Mission/Vision Statement for
the school to read about the educational philosophy in more detail).

on a variety of educational philosophies to do so;
• guiding the children in creating portfolios of their academic work;
• observing and assessing the children’s growth ( leading twice-yearly conferences with
families of children in grades 1-2 or 3-4);
• developing significant home/school relationships;
• helping to reach into the community for developmentally appropriate projects and bringing
the community into the school
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an educator with a Master’s degree in education and 5-10 years of

environmental education is preferred. Maine state teacher certification is preferred. Strong literacy and
math teaching skills are required. Experience and skill in parent communication/education are required.

fourth year of a relatively new private school. We seek candidates who are hard-working, enthusiastic,
confident teachers and learners for a school which strives to be a model for 21st century progressive
education in the midcoast area of Maine.
We need a self-motivated and directed, hard-working individual with strong leadership abilities;
excellent organizational, communication, and teaching skills; the desire to listen and speak with
children effectively and with compassion; the flexibility to operate independently and as part of a team;
an engaging personality; and a genuine interest in learning and teaching of elementary school aged
children, working with families, and cultivating community connections. There will likely be
opportunities to present Juniper Hill School’s program and practices at conferences/community events.
