Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary seeks a dynamic, energetic early childhood educator with a passion for connecting young children to nature. We are looking for a leader who excels at working collaboratively with a team of experienced, creative educators to provide vision and direction for a nationally recognized nature and farm-based preschool. The ideal candidate will have a strong background creating learning environments for young learners in the natural world and prior preschool management experience including program planning, staff supervision and mentoring, budget management, and successful stewardship of parent-school relationships.
Program Management and Direction:
Work with the teaching team to develop and design developmentally appropriate farm and nature-based preschool curriculum;
Develop and ensure support for policies, forms, and procedures as it pertains to a safe and healthy learning environment for young children;
Develop, manage, and track preschool budget revenue and expenses;
Oversee all requirements and regulations of Mass Department of Early Education and Care ( EEC) licensure;
Develop communications plan to effectively exchange and share information and ideas with community of preschool parents;
Plan and facilitate parent and family involvement in programs.
Supervision and Evaluation:
Oversee the hiring, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of all full and part-time teaching staff;
Oversee the recruitment, hiring, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of assistant teaching staff and volunteers;
Develop opportunities to work with student volunteers as an internship/training site in partnership with academic institutions.
Work with Education Manager and Marketing staff to promote the preschool to surrounding communities;
Serve as a spokesperson for the Drumlin Farm Community Preschool and the nature-based preschool movement in our region through specialized programs for parents, articles, and journal submissions;
Lead professional development workshops for Early Childhood Educators;
Seek academic and organizational partners that support the advancement of our mission as a nature and farm based preschool and the developing field of nature-based preschools;
Support larger Drumlin Farm and Mass Audubon efforts pertaining to fundraising, special events, sanctuary-wide projects and statewide meetings and initiatives.
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and/or related field, Masters degree preferred;
Certified by EEC for Director Level 1;
Minimum of three years of management and supervisory experience at a licensed preschool;
Familiarity with national and state guidelines state guidelines related to early childhood education with a focus on environmental education and STEM learning.
Minimum of five years of experience teaching children age’s three to five, preferably in programs with a nature and/or farm-based emergent curriculum;
Experience and ability to design learning opportunities that integrate natural history/ecology concepts;
Advocate for the importance of natural learning environments in child development;
Experience supervising staff and volunteers;
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal skills;
Experience presenting talks, lectures, or workshops to adult audiences;
Outstanding planning, organizing and management skills;
Ability to be a creative and flexible team player;
Current on First Aid/CPR;
Valid Mass Driver’s License;
Successful candidates must past a background records check (CORI, CHRI, SORI and driver records check)
