Director of Organizational Learning

Unlocking Potential is a nonprofit school management organization whose mission is

to rapidly transform chronically underperforming district schools into extraordinary

schools that sustain high achievement over time. Our turnaround schools ensure

that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to

succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential. Unlocking

Potential currently operates four schools, UP Academy Charter School of Boston

(grades 6-8), UP Academy Leonard Middle School (grades 6-8), UP Academy Charter

School of Dorchester (grades K1-5), and UP Academy Oliver (grade 6). Unlocking

Potential serves more than 1500 students in Boston and Lawrence. Unlocking

Potential is working to open a fifth school in the summer of 2014.

Role:

The Director of Organizational Learning will manage all aspects of professional

development, reporting directly to the Chief Talent Officer. The Director of

Organizational Learning will work closely with the Unlocking Potential Leadership

Team, All Principals and Directors of Operations, the Unlocking Potential Talent

Team, and external partner organizations/ professional development providers.

Specific Responsibilities:

•Oversee professional development resources and programming

provided to all staff members across the organization;

•Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate the School Leader Residency

Program, including but not limited to designing selection processes,

planning professional development, supporting internal and external

professional development providers, overseeing mentor placements

and anchor projects, and assessing the efficacy of the program and the

overall readiness of Residents;

•Develop, manage, and execute the Rising Leaders Program, including

but not limited to designing selection processes, planning professional

development, supporting internal and external professional

development providers, overseeing management coach placements

and providing support for coaches, and assessing the efficacy of the

program;

•Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate Home Office Professional

Development, including but not limited to identifying organizational

needs, planning professional development, supporting internal and

external professional development providers, and assessing the

efficacy of the program;

•Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate an Organization Learning

library, including videos, professional development resources, contact

information, and more;

•Oversee the organization's yearly summit, including but not limited to

coordinating all logistical aspects, planning the scheduling, preparing all participants, organizing all relevant prework, and assessing the efficacy of the program;
•Determine the organization's long-term vision for organizational learning and ensure that appropriate resources are allotted to realize said vision; and
•Serve as the de facto expert on adult learning to all managers and home office employees, providing ongoing support when requested.

Qualifications:

•A passionate belief in Unlocking Potential's mission, values, and educational

model;

•An eagerness to set ambitious, challenging, and tangible goals, and a

relentless drive to achieve them;

•An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and a

capacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected

challenges;

•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public

speaking skills;

•A sense of humility in the face of success;

•Bachelor's degree is required (master's degree is preferred);

•Experience working in high performing schools and/ or organizations is

required; and

•Current authorization to work in the United States ; A candidate must have

such authorization by his or her first day of employment.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive compensation package, including, when relevant, a salary

equal to (and in some cases above) the district scale and comprehensive health

benefits.
