Deputy Director of Constituency Services for Education

National nonprofit serving the Latino community seeks a Deputy Director of Constituency Services for Education who will lead the organization’s state-based governance training programs serving Latino education policymakers and lead other related efforts. The Deputy Director will be responsible for drafting training curricula for Latino education policymakers; monitoring and analyzing current education policies in key states; developing and maintaining relationships with education policymakers and advocacy organizations; conducting research and analysis; and maintaining the organization’s presence on relevant coalitions. The Deputy Director will also work on programs and projects assigned from the department and/or organization, including contributing to the development of the NALEO Annual Conference program, assist with development, grant and reporting requirements as needed, and other related tasks. Master’s Degree in education, public policy or related field required; minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in education advocacy, public policy, working with policymakers, or related fields required; strong understanding of current education issues, research, and practice; specific expertise in any of the following topics a plus: early education, common core state standards, education governance and finance, and higher education; general knowledge of the political process and/or Latino participation in the political process preferred; outstanding organizational and administrative skills, excellent project management, attention to detail, and effective multi-tasking; superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with staff, media, elected and appointed officials, funders, and other leaders; proven ability to execute projects independently. Ability to contribute positively to the work culture by being solutions-oriented and a team player. This position reports to the Director of Constituency Services for Education. This is a full time, exempt position based in Los Angeles which requires travel and offers excellent benefits; salary commensurate with experience. EOE
