Scope of Position:
The Counselor will be responsible for assisting Group Leaders who will provide academic /recreational services to meet the identified needs of program youth. He/she is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the program goals of the contract and providing an interactive learning environment that leads to 85% attendance requirement. Under the supervision of a Program Director and direction of the Group Leader, the Counselor is responsible for assisting with small group/individualized instruction, classroom management, clerical classroom tasks, and supporting the Group Leader with the implementation of program services that lead to an effective learning environment. The Counselor is also responsible for developing, implementing and teaching creative learning/recreation activities based on students needs.
-High School Diploma, 2 year Associates Degree Preferred.
-Two years direct teaching experience in classroom setting working with education and training programs.
-Ability to manage, assist and work with youth and instructors in the classroom.
-Some clerical skills experience.
-Computer proficiency in Windows 8 and Microsoft programs. Knowledge of competency based training systems.
-Required to participate in DOH mandated reporting.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-NYS DOH finger printing requirements.
-Yearly physical/TB test per OST Medical requirements.
-Knowledge of New York State Education local requirements & IEP.
-Performing/Creative Arts or Physical Recreational/Sports Ability a plus.
-Must fulfill a minimum of 15 hours of mandatory training hours each program licensing period.
