Lutheran Family Health Centers Department of Community Based Programs is seeking to hire a Spanish-speaking Counselor to provide trauma-focused behavioral health support, primarily relying on individual and group sessions with Hurricane Sandy survivors in their communities. Provided services will be culturally and linguistically competent and include outreach and engagement in community settings; assessment and engagement in mental health treatment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach in communities affected by Hurricane Sandy
  • Build relationships with community based organizations, faith-based groups, and local agencies
  • Provide information and psychoeducation traumatic events, typical reactions, helpful coping strategies, and available related resources
  • Provide mental health treatment to individuals and groups in non-traditional community-based settings
  • Assist disaster survivors in gaining access to case management and disaster-related services, as prioritized by survivors
  • Attend community events to provide a compassionate presence and to be available to provide crisis counseling services, when needed
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to inform mental health treatment interventions

Minimum Requirements/ Preferred Skills:

  • LMSW; LCSW preferred with experience providing trauma-informed mental health treatment in non-traditional settings
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Knowledgeable about the community to be served
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Experience running support groups
  • Displays cultural competence
