Conservation Commission Coordinator

Salary Range: $51,527 – $63,841
Duties: Town of Stow is seeking an experienced Conservation Commission Coordinator for an exciting opportunity to manage our Conservation Office. This position provides coordination, support and professional management to the Conservation Commission in carrying out its important mission to protect the community’s natural resources including education in and implementation of the Wetlands Protection Act and the Town of Stow Wetlands Protection Bylaw and Regulations. The Coordinator is also responsible for managing the Town’s open space, agriculture, and conservation lands and coordinating with our land stewards. The successful candidate will work under the general guidance of the Chair of the Conservation Commission and perform field work (wetland delineation, conservation land site assessments and inventories, site visits during construction), assist with land protection and management needs, prepare draft permits for Commission approval, provide information to the public on wetlands-related matters, perform administrative duties relating to budget management, and personnel supervision.
Qualifications: Candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills, working knowledge of the state Wetlands Protection Act and related regulations and wetland delineation experience; working knowledge of open space and conservation land management; a minimum of five years work experience in environmental science or related area; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field or equivalent work experience. The abilities to enforce regulations tactfully and impartially, to interact appropriately with the general public and a commitment to teamwork are also required.
