Community Green Lead

USGBC is seeking a talented and enthusiastic professional with an interest and experience working in the community college sector to create career pathways for a green economy. The position will oversee the Center for Green Schools’ efforts to engage community college staff, faculty and students in green building education and training opportunities. The Community Green Lead will be responsible for proactively increasing engagement of under-represented populations within USGBC and Center for Green Schools’ higher education programs and networks.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Grow the Community Green network and manage the daily program operations
  • Recruit, manage and support the efforts of regionally based volunteers to lead local outreach and engagement efforts to community colleges
  • Facilitate an annual in-person training for volunteers
  • Promote USGBC institutional membership to community colleges, support existing members, and track activities
  • Liaise with USGBC’s Marketing and Communications team to devise an outreach and marketing strategy to support growth of program
  • Work with USGBC Students to increase the number of students engaged at community colleges
  • Drive strategic relationships with other national organizations and corporations to support programmatic goals
  • Work with the Center’s K12 team to increase green career pathways between high schools and community colleges
  • Present at relevant higher education conferences and events
  • Provide program financial oversight and management
  • Work with Fund Development team to seek additional grant opportunities to support program


  • Bachelors degree in a related field (building industry, environmental discipline) required


  • 1-3 years program management experience

Other Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in community organizing
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with community colleges specifically related to sustainability engagement
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with a diverse array of individuals and constituents
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Grant writing/development experience a plus
  • Familiarity with the major U.S. campus sustainability organizations and programs (e.g. AASHE, ACUPCC, the SEED Center) essential; existing strong relationships within campus sustainability networks preferred
  • LEED Green Associate or AP preferred
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
  • Passion for and commitment to USGBC mission
