Communications Specialist (part-time)

The Harris Center for Conservation Education is now accepting applications for a part-time (20 hours per week) Communications Specialist position. This staff member will be responsible for developing written and visual materials that effectively convey our mission and inspire support for the Harris Center and for conservation throughout the Monadnock Region.

Position Responsibilities

* Collaborate with staff to develop and implement a communications plan for the organization
* Draft and coordinate press releases describing Harris Center programs, news, and events
* Cultivate working relationships with local and regional media outlets
* Edit the Harris Center’s bi-annual print newsletter
* Write and edit the Harris Center’s monthly e-newsletter
* Manage and edit our events calendar (in print and online)
* Develop content for our website and social media platforms (Facebook, Flickr, YouTube)
* Develop additional print material, including brochures, reports, invitations to special events, and trail guides
* Organize, grow, and develop creative uses for our photography collection
* Assist with grant writing and editing
* Manage Harris Center contact lists
* Other tasks that get shared among staff in a small organization (answering phones, staffing events, etc.)

Candidate Qualifications

* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Commitment to the Harris Center mission
* Ability to work effectively, both independently and in collaboration with others
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel) and photo editing software
* Skill with, and willingness to learn, additional software/social media/web tools, including but not limited to Constant Contact, WordPress, Flickr, Raiser’s Edge, and Dropbox
* Ability to work out of our Hancock, NH office and to attend events on some nights and weekends
* Experience in communications, public relations, and/or graphic design strongly preferred
