Client Development Manager

Position Summary

Executive Service Corps of Southern California is Los Angeles’ premier provider of impactful, cost-effective capacity-building services to nonprofit organizations, serving over 150 nonprofit clients each year. The Client Development Manager is responsible for client identification, project scoping and successful contracting and launch of ESC’s individualized consulting projects, as well as participation in consultant recruitment and deployment of ESC’s cadre of executive-level volunteers on management consulting and executive coaching assignments. S/he works closely with the Program Manager, consultant Training Manager, and Institute Program Director to ensure excellence in service delivery and organization-wide consistency and coordination.

Major Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Conducts and manages client development activities for consultation/coaching program, including:
    • timely, professional and effective response to inquiries from prospective clients who are often nonprofit executive directors and members of boards of directors
    • pro-active recruitment of additional prospective clients
    • project assessment and determination of appropriate ESC service(s) to meet client needs
    • development of project scope and contract (and proposals/responses to RFPs as required) in close coordination with Program Manager
    • successful and consistent contracting and launch of new consulting/coaching projects
  • Assists in planning and executing client recruitment events such as leadership breakfasts or forums

Consultant Recruitment & Engagement

  • Assists with consultant recruitment activities, including prospective consultant outreach, assessment, and intake processes
  • Assigns consultants to new projects in close coordination with Program Manager
  • Works closely with Program Manager to ensure that projects meet or exceed ESC standards
  • Works with Training and Program Managers to ensure onboarding and training programs equip consultants to meet ESC’s expectations for the successful execution of consulting engagements
  • Assists in planning and executing consultant appreciation and informational events

Program and Administration

  • Responsible for proper documentation, billing and collections for all individualized consulting projects
  • Assists in the development of new programs and special projects
  • Other duties as assigned in support of ESC’s needs and priorities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s required, master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Significant experience in volunteer management and nonprofit capacity building or traditional consulting (preferably encompassing nonprofits of varied sizes and missions)
  • Minimum ten years relevant experience, including at least five years in program management and staff supervision and at least three years in senior management
  • Deep commitment to the nonprofit sector
  • Background or strong interest in sales or fund development with an overriding customer service orientation
  • Must be a relationship builder and possess a collaborative approach
  • Self-starter able to work well in a team driven environment which includes both staff and volunteers
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail; administratively self-sufficient
  • Flexible and able to juggle multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines
  • Strong judgment, diplomacy, problem-solving skills, analytical abilities and commitment to confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Facility with all common office equipment, software, and modes of communication
  • Experience with database systems and project management software
