Chief Development Officer

Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge (NRM) , the nation’s leading museum of American illustration art and Norman Rockwell art, located in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, seeks a new Chief Development Officer.

This is an historic and very exciting time for the NRM, with the recent broadening of its mission to collect and exhibit illustration art, establishment of the Rockwell Center for American Visual Studies, and the renewed interest in the art of Norman Rockwell and his contemporary relevance. With the most significant collection of Rockwell art in the world, the artist’s personal archive and working studio, an extensive collection of American Illustration art from 1860 to the present time, recently enhanced by the donation of the collections of the Famous Artists’ School, global digital access and traveling exhibitions across the United States and worldwide, widespread recent public interest in the artist generated by a new biography and major auction sales, this is an exciting time in American illustration studies.

NRM seeks as its Chief Development Officer an individual with a passion for art and a track record of building and managing high performance development organizations, including personal success with significant donors. The new CDO will find an active, engaged and passionate board, a director who has enjoyed great success in building the museum’s global reach, collections, collectors, artists and fundraising base, an enthusiastic and committed executive team, and an expert curatorial staff eager to lend their support to development activities to support the Museum’s artistic mission and widespread public interest and appreciation for artist Norman Rockwell.

The new CDO will be a member of a cohesive and talented senior management team, where he or she will have input into and involvement with institution-wide policies and practices regarding the Museum’s current operation, while helping to define and carryout its strategic plans for the future.

Management of a personal portfolio of donor relationships, creative positioning of the Museum’s programs and funding opportunities and directing the fundraising work of the board of Trustees and CEO are among the CDO’s top priorities. Other key priorities awaiting the new CDO is the expansion of the donor base with a special effort directed at identifying the next generation of donors as well as new generation of leaders to serve on the Museum’s Boards of Trustees and Council. The new CDO will be responsible for annual fundraising operations for the $4.5 million museum budget and is charged to develop a plan to systematically strengthen the organization to meet future priorities, including the planning and execution of the Museum’s $20 million endowment initiative.

NRM seeks an energetic, strategic and entrepreneurial professional with a strong team orientation and a friendly, enthusiastic “can do” attitude to be its next CDO. A full position profile is available upon request.
