Job Title: HEET Grant Case Manager

Reports To: Assistant Director, Special Projects

Position Overview:

SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-Employer Training and Education Fund is seeking an experienced Case Manager to serve the organization through the WA State Hospital Employee Education and Training (HEET) grant(s). The grants support a joint collaboration between Labor, Employers & Community Colleges to create career ladders for incumbent healthcare workers. The case manager will work with the College (fiscal agent), Union and employers whose workers are represented by SEIU Healthcare 1199NW to implement the training & educational programs. The primary focus of this position is to provide educational case management services while operating as part of a project management and student support system that spans the partnership. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of effectively supporting adults seeking career and educational advancement. The position requires at least three years' experience in the adult education/workforce development field. This is a full-time position and is grant funded. Continuation is contingent upon available funding.

Essential Functions:

Provide career counseling, educational planning & case management services:

  • Help recruit and enroll potential members into classes.
  • Interview participants at their worksite and/or over the phone to assess member needs.
  • Determine eligibility and review application materials.
  • Develop career/educational goals, identify and direct members to appropriate pathways.
  • Work across the support team to assist participants in addressing barriers such as scheduling, time management, navigating the educational system, family issues, etc.
  • Maintain member records such as academic plan documents, case notes, database, expenditures and other relevant information.
  • Track member progress using a member database and regular case note entries.
  • Consistently follow detailed policies and procedures established by the Fund to ensure member eligibility and accurate service tracking.
  • Manage a caseload of 50-100 members.
  • Work collaboratively with representatives of the college system, the Union and participating employers.
  • Support the overall smooth running of the project by meeting expectations for extensive and ongoing clear communication across the project team.
  • Maintain member confidentiality.
  • Work with project evaluator(s) to provide information aiding in the evaluation process.
  • Regular travel throughout King County to partner colleges and employers for meetings.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in education/training or workforce development field. Experience working within a union or not for profit organizations will also be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience with career counseling and case management practices.
  • Working knowledge of health care careers and workforce development/career ladders.
  • Knowledge of the barriers to success for working adults returning to school.
  • Knowledge and experience with healthcare training programs throughout the community college system and knowledge of the community college system.
  • Working knowledge of adult education theory and best practices.
  • Ability to connect with and motivate potential participants to engage in education and training programs.
  • Experience managing a case load of 80 or more active participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and partnerships/within teams strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a union or labor management environment or an understanding of unions and ability to work in a labor/management environment.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate concurrent multiple training projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Proven record of working collaboratively to meet performance goals.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record keeping, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Flexibility regarding hours; some weekend and /or evening hours may be required.
  • Valid Washington State Driver License and access to a reliable insured vehicle.
  • General understanding of the issues confronting both SEIU Healthcare1199NW members and participating employers and/or experience working with Labor/Management partnerships strongly preferred.
    • Bi-lingual skills as a strong plus.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum) preferably in adult education, social services, healthcare or related field
  • Master's Degree preferred

  • Pay commensurate with experience
