Position: RP and MG Case Manager

SUMMARY

The RP/MG Case Advocate will provide extensive case management to newly arriving refugees receiving Reception and Placement Services. In addition, the RP/MG Case Advocate will oversee the Matching Grant employment program, aiding refugees, asylees, and other qualified groups to achieve and sustain economic stability within their first 6 months in the US. The objective of this position is to ease clients’ transition to life in the US and assist them along the path to self-sufficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reception & Placement (R&P)

· Maintain current knowledge of the U.S. Resettlement Program;

· Ensure the completion of all core services mandated through the Department of State Cooperative Agreement within allocated timeframes;

· Greet arriving refugees at the airport and transport them to initial housing;

· Assist in securing housing for arriving refugee families. Ensure that housing is safe, sanitary, and affordable;

· Work with the Resource Developer and other staff members to ensure that housing is fully furnished with all items mandated through Operational Guidance. Pick up and deliver items as appropriate;

· Ensure clients are provided appropriate seasonal clothing and food or food allowance;

· Lead orientations on American culture, personal/home safety, health, and employment

· Develop comprehensive resettlement plan for each client

· Assist clients in applying for social security cards;

· Assist clients in applying for assistance from the Department of Social Services;

· Register children in school;

· Enroll adults in English as a Second Language classes. Follow up with clients to encourage regular attendance;

· Ensure clients receive initial health screenings at local health departments;

· Refer clients eligible for the state funded employment program to the Employment Manager. Follow up with clients and employment services to ensure job placement and retention;

· Manage client finances through the disbursement of resettlement grants and other sources of funding

· Make referrals as appropriate;

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with social services providers, employers, and other community partners

· Complete all reports in a timely manner

· Other assigned duties

Matching Grant (MG)

· Oversee the Matching Grant early-employment program.

· Conduct assessment to determine client eligibility for Matching Grant

· Conduct pre-employment trainings with program participants

· Assist client with job search and job development such as resume-writing and mock interviews,

· Research employment opportunities and provide assistance in completing, applications, scheduling and transporting client to and from interviews

· Develop ongoing relationships with area employers and advocate for refugee employment opportunities and follow up on job placements

· Track volunteer hours and in-kind donations with Matching Grant clients and raise the match

· Maintain up-to-date client case files and detailed case note logs

· Work as part of the program team and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings

· Oversee the supervision of interns and volunteers

· Complete all reports in a timely manner

· Other assigned duties

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, social services or related field; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Desired: fluency in any of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Tigrinya, Amharic

Note: Valid driver’s license and access to regular and reliable personal transportation required. Police clearance and clear drug test required.
