WildQuest Summer Day Camp
PFEEC conducts year-round environmental education programs such as school field trips, public programs, Naturalist-in-Residence programs with three local schools, and of course, camps. Camp includes outdoor nature activities, animal and plant identification, gardening, arts and crafts, quests, games, fort building, and epic adventures. Camp instructors strive to foster an appreciation and understanding of the natural and cultural history of Prescott Farm, and by extension, children’s own special places as well. We are seeking dynamic counselors that will enhance camper’s ecological awareness and provide fun hands-on learning opportunities in a community-minded and non-competitive atmosphere.
Camp Instructors/Counselors will lead and instruct groups of 12 campers (ages 6 – 12) at a
well-respected environmental summer day camp; plan and teach interactive ecological and farm based lessons and community building activities; supervise and be responsible for the safety of campers; work closely with other staff to plan events and special programs for entire camp; communicate with campers’ parents; and help maintain camp supplies and equipment.
Dates: June 17 ; August 22, 2014. 35 hours per week, generally, from 8:30 am ; 4:30 pm Monday ; Friday with occasional extended care responsibilities (8:00 am ; 5:30 pm).
Bachelor’s degree or upper level undergraduate with natural resource background and experience educating children about environmental topics; ability to work outdoors, including moderate hiking, running and lifting moderately heavy objects; current certification in First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain; must be over 18 and pass a background check; be self-motivated strong leadership skills and willingness to expand knowledge and responsibilities; and be a team player and have a positive approach with campers, staff and families
Hourly rate based on experience. Other benefits include: helping to provide a special experience for children in a camp program with a unique curriculum, opportunity to work with seasoned environmental educators, and work at an active regional environmental education center.
