ODIM works within the Tz’utujil communities of San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna, Lake Atitlán to address healthcare and educational needs. Our vision is for the Maya to have a hopeful future for themselves and their children.

Overall Responsibility: The role of the Business Manager is to manage financial operations, maintain facilities and organizational records, and manage/track inventories of all clinic supplies. The selected candidatewill be part of a diverse team consisting of international and local staff that works with indigenous communities to improve health and education through the provision of patient-centered healthcare and empowerment-based education. This position is supervised by the Executive Director.

Specific tasks include the following:

1) Budget Management (30-40% Time)

  • Maintain up-to-date financial tracking in Excel and QuickBooks, including logs for all bank and operating cash accounts, donations, and reconciliation of team finances.
  • Maintain record of all in-kind donations.
  • Balance operating cash accounts on a weekly basis.
  • Create quarterly and annual financial reports for use by internal and external stakeholders.
  • As necessary, assist in creation of necessary financial reports for IRS purposes and any external stakeholders.
  • With staff support, prepare annual proposed budget and individual cost center budgets.
  • Provide financial guidance to organization as needed.

2) Supply Management (20-30% Time)

  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to purchase, track and maintain medical, pharmaceutical, dental, construction, and educational inventory.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator and Pharmacist to prepare medication orders for all medical teams in order to maintain a continually-stocked pharmacy and provide current needs lists for other volunteers who may be interested in donating.

3) Facility Management (20% time)

  • Maintain orderly electronic and paper filing systems for critical organization documents.
  • Develop organizational systems and processes as needed.
  • Gather information & oversee the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment therein.

4) Reporting (10-20% time)

  • Collect and organize information for quarterly newsletters and submit to Executive Director for editing and approval.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the strategic plan as requested by the Board and Executive Director.

5) Resource Development (5% time)

  • As needed, support Executive Director in the planning and implementation of development activities.

Skills Required:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
  • B.A. and professional experience in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar field.
  • Operating knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks.
  • Successful candidates will possess a high level of cultural humility and sensitivity, as well as a commitment to gaining a greater understanding of the historical and social factors that impact indigenous populations in Latin America and globally.

Desirable Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar field.
  • Previous experience working in developing countries; experience working with indigenous populations and/or in low-resource settings a strong asset.
