Interested in science AND working with kids in an outdoor setting??
ZooCamp is now hiring for our summer 2013 season!
ZooCamp is a Camp Fire Eastern Massachusetts day camp that gives children ages 5-13 the opportunity to learn about animal science, ecology, and environmental issues while being up close and personal with animals from all over the world!
ZooCamp Dates: Monday through Friday, June 24-August 16 (plus staff training the week of June 15)
Location: Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, Except June 24-28, which takes place at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham.
Positions Currently Available:
The assistant director works with the director in the day to day running of the camp and support and supervision of staff. Throughout the day the assistant director may be teaching a lesson, covering for a counselor, overseeing extended care, preparing supplies for an upcoming activity, running opening and closing circle or communicating with families. You will work closely with the director of our small day camp, sharing responsibilities to ensure that camp is safe, enjoyable and educational for the campers.
Senior Counselors will work with a Junior Counselor to lead a group of 8-12 children in the implementation of an active, multi-discipline curriculum designed to teach a variety of animal- and environment-related themes. Activities include arts-and-crafts projects, themed tag games, keeping field notebooks, and of course, using the variety of zoo exhibits to see nature in action!
Experience in education or childcare is a must, and a background in science study or instruction is highly preferable.
