ManhattanCountrySchool seeks an experienced Spanish language teacher who brings passion and excellence to the teaching of speaking, writing, reading, and listening to the Spanish language, as well as possesses a deep understanding of the link between language and culture.
ManhattanCountrySchool is a pre K-8th co-educational elementary school in NYC recognized for its strong academic program, racial and economic diversity, and an environmental literacy program that features a working farm in the Catskills. Committed to principles of equity and multiculturalism, ManhattanCountrySchool is unique among NYC independent schools. MCS’ educational philosophy relies on educators who have strong knowledge of child development and can apply it to effective pedagogies of inquiry and learning, enjoy the exuberance and curiosity of children, want to help build a community where diverse perspectives are valued, and appreciate the life-long impact of working together for social and environmental justice.
The Upper School Spanish program focuses on conversation, vocabulary, grammar, and culture in a primarily Spanish-speaking environment. Expectations include teaching cultural studies with connections to social justice and identity, integrating technology, collaboration with a 7th/8th grade team, serving as a 7th/8thgrade advisor, supervising one farm trip a year, and teaching electives. Ideal candidate can provide examples of innovative pedagogy to promote inquiry and learning in adolescents, is comfortable in a diverse community, has strategies for teaching diverse learners, has knowledge of SmartBoards and iPads, takes initiative, and has high expectations for all students.
Native speakers, full-time teaching experience, and a Masters degree in Spanish language or education are preferred.
