Personal Property (Gifts in kind)

Gifts of art, rare books, stamps, antiques, manuscripts and other prized possessions can be a truly wonderful expression of the depth of appreciation a donor feels toward Antioch University New England.  These gifts also present unique opportunities for the donor.

  • Donations of personal property during your lifetime not only reduce your taxable estate, but also reduce your taxable income in the year of the gift.
  • You are entitled to a charitable deduction on your income tax amounting to the property’s full, fair-market value as documented by a third-party appraisal or receipt.

Personal property and real estate gifts cannot require AUNE’s commitment to a significant additional expense for present or future use, display, maintenance, administration, or sale. You must demonstrate proof of sole ownership. AUNE’s acceptance also takes into consideration the usefulness of the item as it pertains to AUNE’s mission and purpose.

Many employers match their employee’s gifts to non-profit organizations. Matching gifts can double or even triple your gift to AUNE.  An employee’s spouse/partner and retired employees may also qualify to request matching funds. Visit your Human Resource department to discover whether or not your employer offers matching funds. If so, obtain eligibility requirements and a matching gift form.
