Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to reapply each year for financial aid?
Yes! Your financial aid award notification reflects only the terms for which financial aid is currently awarded. If you are enrolled in a program that will continue after the spring term, you need to reapply for Financial Aid for the upcoming award year. If you will be enrolled for the summer term, the new award year begins with the summer term. If your program does not meet in the summer, your new award year begins in the fall. The priority application deadline for all continuing students is March 1. If you are applying for Federal Work Study or the Jonathan Daniels Scholarship, all of your financial aid application materials must be received in the Financial Aid Office on or before March 1.

I am a continuing student. Do I have to sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Direct Loan?
Yes, beginning the new term for the 2010-2011 year (Summer), all new and continuing students will need to sign a new MPN. Learn More.

Can I increase / decrease my loan amount?
It is certainly possible to decrease your loan amount. Please submit the Award Revision Form requesting the decrease at least 10 days before the beginning of the term. If the decrease you are requesting will result in a balance due on your tuition account, you should be prepared to pay the amount due immediately if it is past the payment deadline when you make your request.

It may be possible to increase your loan amount if you have not already borrowed the maximum. You should carefully consider your needs for the award year and make your request for an increase as soon as possible. All requests for loan increases should be received in the Financial Aid Office no later than 10 days before the end of the term for which the increase is needed.

Can I still get work study?
The demand for Federal Work Study usually exceeds funding available. The Financial Aid Office maintains a wait list for these funds. We can add your name to the wait list upon your request. We will then notify you if we are able to offer funding.

I didn't think I would need financial aid but now I do. The term has already started. Can I still apply?
The Financial Aid Office will process your financial aid application as soon as possible once it is complete. We request that you apply no later than 6 weeks before the end of the term for which you are requesting funds. Students who apply after the priority deadlines may not be considered for Jonathan Daniels or Federal Work Study.

What can I do to help the financial aid process go smoothly?
