Strategic Professional Development
From the moment you enter the RMC program, we are preparing you for entrée into the environmental profession. The comprehensive approach the RMC program has developed to prepare students for employment has shown to be very successful.
Through individual advising, the student develops a vision of a career path, which guides the choices while a student at Antioch. Students are asked to think strategically about courses, course projects, practica and their capstone project so that the choices build upon each other and develop a portfolio of work and experience that is essential for moving into their career as they leave the program.
Through student advising, emphasis is given to the choice of practicum and the capstone project. These vehicles not only provide experience but can be strategically used to network and expand the students’ access to job opportunities.
In the fifth semester, every student is required to take the RMC Professional Seminar, where students develop a strategic plan for themselves that reflects the critical path they must take to locate and secure the initial environmental position of their choice. During this seminar, the student begins to frame their environmental professional identity. As a seminar requirement, students are also asked to set up and go through informational interviews so to become versed in the cutting edge issues within their own domain of environmental interest so to discover who, and what organizations, are taking the lead in such work.
