The Resource Management and Conservation (RMC) Program differs from traditional natural resource management degrees in that it provides the theory and skills combined with extensive internship opportunities so that our graduates not only leave the program with a marketable area of expertise but with documented experience as proven environmental professionals.
The RMC mission is to prepare environmental professionals to be effective agents of change that can address the realities and pressures of growth and development with the need to preserve the environment upon which society is dependent.
Find comfort in complexity.
Too often different stakeholders find themselves competing for limited resources.
Environmental problems are treated superficially, particularly in respect to their socio-economic and political histories. And often administrators of resource management agencies don’t have training in dispute resolution, or in the management of finances, information, and human resources.
Create the common ground.
The Resource Management and Conservation (RMC) program engages you with the theory, skills, and internships that enable you to help diverse stakeholders find common ground and resolve complex environmental problems cooperatively—by balancing human needs, and maintaining and improving the natural systems upon which we depend.
Make decisions and then make them happen.
Our students want to be critical players in environmental decision-making as well as in the management of how those decisions are implemented. It is toward this end that our RMC graduates devote their careers.

Why did you choose the RMC program?
The program had the right combination of self-directed learning, financial administrative skills, science skills, group dynamics and psychology. These are things that I didn’t find in more conventional programs.
What was the most useful part of your program?
The ability to understand the nuances of group dynamics, and realizing the importance of bringing stakeholders together. I work with state regulators, scientists, engineers, community planners, clients, town officials… learning how to streamline communication is essential in conceptualizing and solving complex problems that involve multiple parties.
