Research Specializations

Ecology is by definition interdisciplinary and now more than ever there is a need for multidisciplinary dialogue and research. By interdisciplinary, we refer to the integration of a wide range of concepts and ideas, acknowledging that environmental issues cross the boundaries of traditional disciplines.

Ecological thought has a broad and intriguing literature, one that cannot be studied in a disciplinary context. This literature is crucial for the development of environmental practitioners and researchers alike. The doctoral program allows students to become thoroughly familiar with this literature; to evaluate it, to consider its research applications, and to amplify it, according to the circumstances of the learner and the unique problems he or she faces.
