Practica - Individualized Program - Environmental Studies - Antioch University New England

Practica

Students must complete eight credits of practicum (typically two 300 hour practica between their third and fifth semesters). Practica are opportunities for students to apply concepts and skills they have learned in the classroom. Depending on students’ career goals, practica can be done any where in the world.

Students in the Individualized Program choose practica that meet their individual program plans. The following is a sampling of some IP related practica organized by the title of each student’s Individualized Program name:

  • Community-Based Environmentalism: Assisted in organizing the Third Annual Northern Sustainable Communities Network meeting, including the creation of a workshop on “Business for Social Responsibility” and development and facilitation of the opening session.
  • Sustainable Resource Management: Worked for the Antioch New England Institute as the Program Coordinator for the Selectperson’s Institute, arranging training sessions designed to bring about positive reform in the operation of local government.
  • Ecopsychology: Served as the assistant guide for Marlboro College’s ’Rites and Rituals in the Wilderness’ Vision Quest program for incoming college freshmen and women.
  • Chemistry of Pollution Prevention: Reviewed, evaluated and prioritized New Jersey environmental regulations that are pertinent to the remediation of a polluted oil storage/refining site.
