Environmental Advocacy and Organizing practica examples include research, project management, and activism in myriad nonprofit organizations including Alternatives in Community and Environment, CorpWatch, The League of Independent Voters, Vital Communities, Sierra Club, New England Coalition Against Nuclear Pollution, Clean Water Action, and American Friends Service Committee’s Fair Trade Program.

Environmental Jobs Online —With a mission of "saving the planet one job at a time," Environmental Jobs Online offers current want ads for hundreds of environmental jobs. Their job categories also include a specific category on environmental advocacy and policy jobs.

Common Dreams—an alternative online news source for the progressive community—includes a list of over 120 progressive organizations. Each organization name is hotlinked so if you click it you can research particular organizations to see if you might like to do a practicum or seek a job with the organization. Many of these organizations’ webpages also list current job openings. Use this list to pick some groups you are interested in as volunteers, practicum students, or as job applicants. For job applicants, you can bookmark the organization’s job pages to streamline your ongoing searches.

Network for Good—Index of nonprofit job resources & listings.

Idealist.org—Jobs and career-building in the nonprofit sector.

On-line Sources for Nonprofit Jobs—Listings of useful sites and resources.

Opportunity NOCs—An online source of nonprofit jobs and career opportunities.

Union Jobs Clearinghouse—The central site for posting the open staffing and trades positions in organized labor that are now accepting applications.

Feminist Majority Foundation Career Center—Nation-wide job listings with Feminist and Progressive organizations.

The Midwest Academy offers a “Jobs in Organizing” webpage.

Orion Grassroots Network, an alliance of over 500 grassroots organizations working on environmental protection and justice, offers a directory of up-to-date listings of job and internship.

Environmental Careers.com lists a wide variety of jobs, including activist and organizing positions.

The ActivNet Website includes links to the jobs pages of several large environmental organizations. It also has a general directory of advocacy-oriented organizations. Also, the have a whole section on career and job search advice.

New England Grassroots Environmental Fund’s website lists information of hundreds of their grantees in the region, which makes this is a good place to look for possible grassroots groups that might be able to provide you with a great practicum/internship experience or even job opportunities.

Environmental Career Opportunities claims to be the number one online source for environmental job listings, including advocacy and organizing jobs.

Community Career Center offers valuable job seeking information in the nonprofit world and a searchable database of job postings.

Environmental Careers Organization offers paid internships, including some focused on advocacy and organizing. They also offer excellent tips on how to conduct an effective search for jobs in the environmental field.

Antioch New England Alumni Career Services Web Page and in-person career consultation and coaching.

The Office of Alumni Affairs also provides career consultations at no cost to our alumni and students in their final semester at ANE. Assistance is available with career development and management issues, job search support, resume review, networking guidance, and any other career related questions or problems.
