Prepare for a sustainable future.

The world needs you now—to preserve biodiversity, work for environmental justice, reinvigorate science education, guide communities in planning for climate change, and promote sustainable practices in organizations, schools, and businesses.

Complete your degree in 16 to 20 months.

The Master of Science in Environmental Studies is a 42-credit program that takes 5 semesters to complete. The 30-credit Master of Science in Resource Management and Conservation can be completed in 4 semesters.

Learn from faculty who love to teach.

Our faculty are committed, first and foremost, to creating great learning opportunities. You'll find our faculty working side-by-side with students in the field and in the classroom, digging soil pits, mapping forest composition, tracking wildlife, and creating self-sustaining miniature biospheres.

Build your résumé and career network.

Connect theory with practice by completing 6 credits of internship and a 3-credit capstone project in the field. Create and install a loon-nesting platform, research the spread of an invasive species, teach ecology at a residential learning center, meet with stakeholders on the siting of a new mall, or student teach AP science classes.

Choose a rigorous program.

AUNE has conferred the environmental studies degree on more students than any other graduate school in the nation and produces some of the brightest scientists, managers, educators, and activists in the field. Your journey and hard work will be as rewarding as the benefits of your degree.

Play the field.

Study wolves at Yellowstone, tropical ecology and conservation in Costa Rica, alpine flora in the White Mountains, and forest and tundra ecology on Mount Desert Island. Optional field study trips provide expanded opportunities for learning.

“Antioch is a unique learning and teaching community, where students bring as much to the classroom as they take away, and where we value questions of “why” as well as “how” in relation to our environmental work. Our faculty and students build connections across disciplines and work at the nexus of academia and society. We are an open community, nurturing rich networks of individuals and organizations that bring students to us, help shape our curricula, support practica, and eventually hire our graduates.” — Joy Ackerman, PhD, Core Faculty
