Emily is a science teacher who has taught dyslexic elementary and middle school students in Baltimore for the past eighteen years. She received her MS in Education and Certificate in Environmental Studies from Johns Hopkins University. She serves on the Maryland Zoo teacher advisory board and works with the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education to promote Green School initiatives in local schools. Emily’s research interests include children’s language use and development related to their experiences in nature, and the cognitive development of children in schools using the environment as an integrating context. In addition to teaching at the Jemicy School, she partners with the school’s literacy outreach program in providing environmental science enrichment lessons to pre-K students in urban Baltimore public schools.
