Who are These Children? The Search for Authenticity

with Kim John Payne

This course explores the changing needs social, emotional and behavioral needs of children and teens. We will examine the sensory and social feelings of being overwhelmed many children experience and longer term developmental reactions to cumulative stress often associated with fast-paced, contemporary life styles. What can we do to help the parent and teachers build the child and teen's inner strength and resiliency?

We will also experience a practical approach to bring teacher, therapist and parent together to create greater collaboration around a child or teen with extra needs. We will continue to deepen the theme of parent teacher relationships. Common obstacles to collaboration will be explored and we will practically develop strategies to suspend assumptions as we facilitate movement from fixed demands to uncovering needs.

We will also explore the role of the Collaborative Counselor and what this role asks of us in terms of vocation and inner development.
