Educating For Sustainability
Tom Wessels, MA
Tom Wessels is a core faculty member in the Department of Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England. He is a well-known presenter on issues relating to ecology and sustainability. Tom's most recent book is The Myth of Progress: Toward a Sustainable Future. He has worked with the Rain Forest Alliance's Smart Wood program developing “green certification” guidelines for forest management in the northeastern United States. He is also the author of Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England and The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of America's Mountain Domes, from Acadia to Yosemite. David Sobel, MEd
David Sobel is a core faculty member in the Department of Education at Antioch University New England. He directs the Teacher Certification program and is a renowned speaker and expert on place-based education. David is the author of Place-Based Education: Connecting Classrooms & Communities; Mapmaking with Children: Sense of Place Education for the Elementary Years; Children's Special Places: Exploring the Role of Forts, Dens, and Bush Houses in Middle Childhood; and Beyond Ecophobia: Reclaiming the Heart in Nature Education, among other works. Sue Gentile, MS
Sue Gentile is a core faculty member in the Department of Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England. She teaches in both the Environmental Education and Science Teacher Certification Programs and was a high school teacher and administrator for twenty-three years. Over the past decade Sue has designed and facilitated professional development programs for K-12 educators and has guided schools as they have begun to implement EFS into their curricula and practices. Special areas of interest for Sue are writing to learn and promoting the use of watersheds as interdisciplinary educational resources. Learn more about Sue Gentile
