Ogontz Teacher Training
Ogontz, presented by the The Country Dance and Song Society is a folk arts camp for people of all ages. Families have been coming to this camp for years, sometimes for generations.
In the Teacher Training Program, the Antioch students join teachers from around the country in a small cohort. During some parts of the day, they participate and observe in children's classes while master folklorists teach traditional songs, dances, crafts, and stories. At other times, they enjoy folk arts classes for adults or take part in whole community gatherings. All the while, they collect new material for their classrooms by recording, interviewing and taking notes. At the end of each day, they meet with Jane Miller to share what they've observed, try some new material and to discuss methodology. All receive a Certificate of Teacher Training for a total of forty hours and Antioch University New England students receive graduate course ("Folks Arts in the Classroom") credit for this program.
Jane Miller will be leading the Teacher Training Course at Camp Ogontz in Lyman, NH for the August 2-9, 2008 session. Click here for the brochure for this event.
