Commencement 2008

Tom Wessels, 2008 ANE Commencement Speaker:
"To Restory America" (20:00)

This formal ceremony held on Saturday, May 10 at Keene High School, brought together participants from all academic departments. Eligible participants included November 2007 graduates, April 2008 graduates, and spring semester 2008 finishers.

"Finishers" are students who have registered by the spring 2008 semester for all courses, internships and independent studies required for the degree and who are considered to be in good academic standing by the chairperson of their academic department.

Tom Wessels, Commencement Speaker

Tom Wessels, core faculty in the Department of Environmental Studies, spoke about the need to reclaim the story the nation's founders told about the kind of country the United States should be. The story has shifted from thrift and community to consumption and the individual. The myriad problems we face today cannot truly begin to be addressed until we frame the story differently.

Although Tom did not speak from a prepared text, much of what he said was based on a previously written piece, reproduced here.
