Megan Murphy, PhD

Megan Murphy, PhD
Director of the Antioch Couple & Family Therapy Institute

Dr. Murphy an Associate Professor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has earned the designation of a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She holds a PhD from the University of Georgia and is especially interested in diversity and feminist practice in couple and family therapy. Dr. Murphy has been the Director of the Marriage & Family Therapy Program at Iowa State University and was co-principal investigator on a research grant investigating the characteristics of same sex couples in Iowa. She recently co-authored an article on the influence of religious practices and support for lesbian and gay human rights

Amy Blanchard, PhD

Amy Blanchard, PhD
Clinical Supervisor, Marriage and Family Therapy

Amy Blanchard, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Supervisor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has several years of clinical experience with couples, families, and individuals. Her clinical interests include women's health issues, particularly perinatal depression. Her doctoral degree is in the specialty field of Medical Family Therapy which provided Dr. Blanchard with specialized training around medical issues such as chronic illness, cancer, diabetes, and postpartum depression. She has worked in an internal medicine clinic, a family practice residency program, and an inpatient psychiatric unit, as well as, a university based marriage and family therapy clinic. Dr. Blanchard is an Associate member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an Approved Supervisor Candidate.

Walter Lowe, Jr., PhD

Walter Lowe, Jr., PhD
Clinical Supervisor, Marriage and Family Therapy

Dr Lowe, PhD, LMFT, is an Assistant Professor in the MFT programs, a Clinical Member and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He has worked as a clinician for 15 years, and his clinical experience includes work with couples of all ages, families with multiple (mental, behavioral and/or medical) problems, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. He has also done extensive work in the areas of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance abuse and sexual abuse. Before earning his doctorate from Purdue University and becoming a trainer of therapists, Dr. Lowe worked in a Chicago-area residential treatment facility for adolescent males, where he was the creator and founding director of the facility's adolescent substance abuse treatment program. His current clinical and research work is primarily focused on the best ways to provide help to the families of men (or women) who are returning home after long absences, either as the result of military service or incarceration.

Kevin P. Lyness, PhD

Kevin P. Lyness, PhD
Clinical Supervisor, Marriage and Family Therapy

Dr. Lyness is an Associate Professor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has earned the designation of a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He received his PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1998 from Purdue University. His Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in Family Studies, with emphases in Substance Abuse Studies. He was a Certified Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor in Texas from 1988 through 1992 and in Indiana from 1992 through 2000. He was first licensed in Colorado as an LMFT in 2000. He has been in some form of clinical practice since 1986, when he worked in an adolescent substance abuse treatment unit. He worked in substance abuse treatment programs through 1999 and directed a partial hospitalization treatment program for adults in Indiana from 1995 through 1999. In addition, he has worked as a marriage and family therapist in various agencies and in private practice from 1991 through the present. In addition to being the MFT Academic Programs Director, Dr. Lyness supervises both masters and doctoral level Marriage and Family Therapy student therapists. He is particularly interested in clinical work with adolescents and their families, with families struggling with addictions, and in working with couples.
