“Starting Off Right: Creating Nature Preschools and Forest Kindergartens” will be held at Antioch University New England (AUNE) on Saturday, March 2. Ken Finch of Green Hearts Institute for Nature in Childhood in Omaha, Nebraska, will lead the full-day workshop.
The workshop will focus on how to get a nature preschool up and running, including developing a business plan, market analysis, fund raising, and risk management. Participants will also look models that have proven successful in the United States.
Ken Finch has worked in environmental education for thirty-eight years and holds a master’s degree in that field from AUNE. He has served as the director of two of the country’s largest nature centers, as senior manager at two children’s museums, and as the Minnesota State Director for the National Audubon Society. His responsibilities have included supervising two nature/science preschools, and he has assisted with the planning and development of several others. Finch is a former national president of the Association of Nature Center Administrators, and he has been active with numerous other nonprofit boards.
