Gaspard Rwanyiziri, director of the Centre for Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), is spending two weeks studying at Antioch University New England’s (AUNE) Department of Environmental Studies, starting April 2.

Rwanyiziri is doing postdoctoral research here. He is also available to make presentations to the AUNE community on his research into the management of protected areas in tropical countries. His visit is funded by the Department of Research Cooperation in the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.

Rwanyiziri, also a senior lecturer in geography at NUR, earned his PhD in geography and planning from Pau University in France. His research interests are natural resources and the effects of climate change and variability on biodiversity conservation, water availability and local livelihoods in Rwanda.

Rwanyiziri’s visit is a result of the memorandum of understanding between NUR and AUNE. Read more about the work of Beth Kaplin, AUNE professor of environmental studies, and other faculty and students in Rwanda, and student and faculty exchanges with the Rwandan university.
