Research Workshops Available for PsyD Students

In a quandary about quantitative research design? We can help with two workshops offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Here are the details.

Workshop 1: How to Design a Quantitative Research Project

This workshop is ideal for students preparing to design a quantitative research project. We will review some general theories of research as well as more specific concepts related to methodology. The workshop will focus on formulating research questions, and matching them to appropriate data collection strategies. (This workshop will be repeated in the spring, date to be announced.)

Date: Monday, October 5
Time: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Where: Room 207

Workshop 2: Data Collection and Analysis

This workshop is for students who have designed a study and are determining specific steps for data collection and analysis. The workshop will review levels of measurement, creation of statistical hypotheses, and a basic review of statistical concepts related to data processing. We will review basic categories of statistics as well as concepts related to research validity such as power and statistical significance. The workshop will also provide a step by step decision process for determining what statistical methods are appropriate for your particular data set. This workshop will also be repeated in the spring.

Date: Monday, November 9
Time: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Where: Room 207

These workshops and limited individual consultation concerning quantitative research are provided by Stephanie Towns (PsyD, Year 2), under the supervision of George Tremblay, core faculty and director of research for the PsyD program. After this fall, Stephanie will also be able to offer consultation in qualitative research strategies. Please be aware that this service is limited to helping students develop research strategies appropriate to a topic you’ve already identified. Stephanie will not provide tutoring for classes or conduct data analyses for students.
