Keene Community Garden Connections held a workshop on February 8 at Antioch University New England (AUNE) for the community partners at CGC’s four new sites.
Staff, volunteers, and participants from the Building Bridges Program of Keene Housing Authority, Keene YMCA, Kids InSHAPE program of Monadnock Family Services, Woodward Home and Keene Senior Center came to plan their garden sites and build their community. Master Gardener Ann McEntee volunteered her time and expertise in garden design. Students from AUNE’s Department of Environmental Studies, who are coordinating the workshop, will hold two more workshops before the growing season.
CGC’s purpose is to build Keene’s capacity to grow food and address issues of food insecurity. With the help of a private donation from the Rashti Foundation, CGC supports the development of gardens by assisting in installation, site and program planning in partnership with local service agencies, community members, students, staff and faculty.
