Bob Coulter Returns to AUNE as Alumni Scholar in Residence

Dr. Bob CoulterBob Coulter, ’87, director of the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and a graduate of AUNE’s Department of Education, will be the Alumni Scholar in Residence at Antioch University New England (AUNE) March 28-31.

During his residency, Coulter will speak on “No Time for Homework…I’m Busy Playing Video Games,” at AUNE’s Spring Speaker Series on March 29. He will teach a day-long workshop for educators, Mapmaking with Children, on March 31, with David Sobel, core faculty member in the Department of Education.

Coulter will also lecture in several classes: Environmental Communication in the Digital Age, Curriculum Design, Math Methods and Conceptual Learning. Also on his schedule: meeting with faculty and alumni at several events.

The Litzsinger Road Ecology Center is an educational center under the management of the Missouri Botanical Garden, open to educators and students for research and field-science programs. The center is part of the Place-Based Education Evaluation Collaborative. Besides directing the center, Coulter oversees two research projects funded by the National Science Foundation. The projects help students build a commitment to the local environment through their interest in technology and service learning, including designing their own computer games as a tool to understand science.

Coulter’s twenty-five years of experience working with pre-teen and early-teen learners include teaching math and science as an elementary school teacher.

AUNE’s Alumni Scholar in Residence Program brings alumni to the AUNE campus to network with students, alumni and faculty. These scholars teach classes and meet with the AUNE community, including students and alumni.
