John Thomas, MEd ’05, a second- and third-grade teacher at Wells Memorial School in Harrisville, New Hampshire, has been honored as the 2011 Harris Center Educator of the Year by the Harris Center for Conservation Education in Hancock, New Hampshire.
Last year, Thomas’ students had studied black bear ecology in New Hampshire and decided to educate the public about how not to attract bears to food sources. They composed letters to the editor and circulated them to statewide newspapers.
Thomas, an avid fly fisherman, has taught students fly casting over the years. He, his wife, Laura, and their two children live in Keene.
