And the Alumni Collaborative Excellence Grant Goes to…

Alumni Collaborative Excellence Grant: Beth White, Amanda Hopkins, Bonnie Hudspeth, Jen Risley, Amanda Costello, Jeff LittletonOn April 7, Beth White, Amanda Hopkins, Bonnie Hudspeth, Jen Risley, Amanda Costello, and Jeff Littleton were awarded the first-ever Alumni Collaborative Excellence Grant of $500. The grant will provide the funds to create a farm education tool kit, which the Monadnock Farm and Community Connection (MFCC) steering committee will develop. This toolkit will provide local educators and community members with ways to connect more young people to local food and farming through community gardens, integrated curricula, local collaborations, and farm experiences.

The group competed for the grant at an education, ES and O&M (principal cert) alumni gathering held in Putney, Vermont. Event organizers gave attendees forty-five minutes to network with colleagues and develop a partnership proposal for the grant. The proposals needed to involve at least two different alumni from two different organizations, connect students and teachers to local resources, and result in stories suitable for local media.

The activity, said faculty member David Sobel, celebrated the innovative natures of ANE alumni, gave them a chance to make connections with other grads, and provided some fast cash for a good idea.
