Student Assessment - Marriage and Family Therapy PhD - Applied Psychology - Antioch University New England

Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes

Student learning outcomes will be assessed in a variety of ways, and at multiple levels. At the course level, each course will have specific outcomes-based learning objectives that students must meet to achieve passing grades for courses. Doctoral students will meet educational outcomes through a variety of means, including through the use of papers, presentations, observed clinical work, observed supervision, and so forth.

Student learning outcomes will be assessed through the use of specific assessment tools designed to measure core competencies. AAMFT in December of 2004 published Marriage and Family Therapy Core Competencies, and this program will specifically focus on those core competencies that address the educational goals noted earlier in this proposal (for example, clinical competence, supervisory competence, teaching competence, and research competence). For example, we currently use a clinical skills assessment device in assessing clinical competence of master’s degree students that can be modified for use with doctoral students. There are at least two existing MFT supervision evaluation tools which may be used to assess supervision competence. Teaching will be evaluated through summative and formative teaching evaluations.
