MFT Program Mission
On the path to becoming competent beginning marriage and family therapists, students will develop clinical skills in the following specific domains: conceptual/theoretical, perceptual, executive, evaluative, and professional. Students will develop skills in the domains of admission to treatment, assessment and diagnosis, treatment planning and case management, therapeutic interventions, legal and ethical issues (including issues of professional identity), and in using and conducting research and evaluation. Students will also develop competence in content areas including basic human development theories, substance abuse and intrafamilial violence, sexuality and sex therapy, and family studies, and will demonstrate respect for cultural diversity across areas of the curriculum. The Marriage and Family Therapy program is designed to be a full-time, concentrated, integrated experience with students completing the coursework and clinical hours in six semesters over two years.
