Historical Happenings

Historical HappeningsHistorical Happenings is a program that engages 3rd graders in “time travel”. Students learn about the people and animals that once lived at the Horatio Colony Preserve. Graduate-students and facilitators lead groups on a journey along the Red Diamond Trail. The students encounter living history characters along the trail who teach them about their lives. Characters include live raptors, a wolf, a logger, Japhet Parker (an original homesteader), a Squakheag Indian, and Horatio Colony I. “Historical Happenings” was the Preserve's primary education project from 1991 to 2001. The project has been reinstated in 2007.
