Program Features: What is CO-SEED?
The Community-based School Environmental Education (CO-SEED) project is a three-year initiative to help schools and communities work together to develop community and place-based curriculum. This curriculum uses the local environment to teach students concepts using all disciplines while emphasizing hands-on real world learning experiences. This approach to education helps students develop stronger ties to their community, a greater appreciation for the natural world and a heightened commitment to serving as active, contributing citizens. The CO-SEED model has eight components that, when integrated into the school and community, have helped to make it a success within each of the schools it has been implemented. These are:
