Reforesting the Jizerske Mountains, 2000

The forests of the Jizerske Mountains, bordering Germany and Poland, had been devastated by pollution from coal plants in the 1970s and local nonprofit groups were attempting to reforest the mountains with native species and educate local residents about their role in the protection of the forests. ANEI staff traveled there in September of 2000 to help local leaders develop skills to promote pubic participation in formulating and implementing environmental policy.
