International Student Guide Introduction

Thank you for your interest in Antioch New England. We are happy to welcome students from all over the world into our progressive learning environment. Each student brings extensive cultural awareness to our school; we hope that you will feel comfortable enough to share some of your culture with us.

We have compiled information to help you become acquainted with the community of Keene and the campus at Antioch University New England. This guide covers a wide variety of legal, academic, and personal questions. If other questions arise, the international coordinators in the Admissions Office can always offer advice and counseling to ensure that your experience in our community will be rewarding and satisfying.

Program Duration

  • Master’s Programs: 18 months to 3 years, depending on program
  • PhD in Environmental Studies: 4-6 years
  • PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology: 5-6 years

English Language Requirements

  • If English is not your native language, you must show evidence of strong written and oral English language skills.
  • We require you to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and achieve a score of at least 600 on the paper-based test or 250 on the computer-based test. Information on tests may be obtained at United States embassies, consulates, and at TOEFL.

Financing Your Education

  • You must submit evidence of financial support for your educational and living expenses for the duration of your graduate studies.
  • Limited scholarships are available, but do not cover all your educational costs.
  • An international student loan program is available for those who have a U.S. citizen to co-sign with them. For more information see International Education Finance Corporation (IEFC).
  • Approximate costs per year are $16,000 for tuition and fees and $17,000 for living expenses.
  • Students on F-1 visas are not permitted to work, except in limited on-campus employment.

Immigration Advising

ANE’s Admissions staff administers the F-1 Exchange Visitor Program visas. The staff acts as the official liaison with the U.S. Department of State, foreign and American consulates, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (formerly the INS) including the Student and Exchange. Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and many foundations and government agencies involved with international student and scholar issues.

The Admissions staff is responsible for issuing all visa documents, including the SEVIS I-20, and advising students and scholars on all immigration matters including:

  • Issuance of initial SEVIS I-20 visa documents for initial entry to the U.S.
  • SEVIS tracking and reporting
  • Revalidation of documents for re-entry to the U.S.
  • Visa renewal
  • Travel outside the U.S.
  • Extension of stay
  • Change of visa status
  • Replacement of lost or stolen visa documents
  • Employment regulations both on and off campus
  • Visa documents for F-1 dependents
  • Authorization of school transfer from U.S. colleges and universities
  • Letters verifying status and finances

Cross-cultural Counseling and Advising

The Admissions staff also assists international students and scholars in adjusting to life at the University by providing information, assistance, and referrals concerning:

  • Cultural adjustment issues
  • Legal rights/responsibilities
  • Medical or other emergencies
  • Academic advising related to immigration status
  • General information such as New Hampshire driver’s license, health insurance and U.S. Social Security Numbers
  • Immigration, civil, and criminal attorneys
  • Tax information

Student and Scholar Advocacy

The Admissions staff members serve as liaisons with ANE departments and the Keene community to advocate for and address the special needs of international students and scholars. The staff serves as an information resource to assist international students in adjusting to the United States, Antioch University New England, and the Keene community.
